I’m finishing up a small commission, am on the tail end of it, probably a couple more brush strokes and I’ll be done. And I’m worried that I’m about to ruin it, so I’ve been procrastinating a bit. I rarely get bottled up about stuff like that so tonight, in an attempt to just break this painter’s block, I broke out my watercolours for this guy. He runs a small ferry to McNab’s Island from Eastern Passage. It’s a great ride.

I borrowed the light from a friend’s studio in Manhattan when I visited her one day about five years ago, when I started this painting. Not that I’ve been working on it for five years ago, just that I started it then, worked on it here and there and finally finished it this week. My friend had extra large, gorgeous peaches set out on the table that overlooked a busy city street. The light falling in the windows reminded me of Vermeer. I thought it was a beautiful studio to work in and bought a small painting of hers on that day for my collection too. Visiting her in her studio was a highlight of a wonderful trip.

Thanks for checking out Jess Healy Music! The past year has been an amazing experience for me. Getting back in the studio and finishing up my album was one of the best decisions I ever made. I learned so much about creating music and I will no longer be able to listen to music the way I used to.

I was so lucky when putting together a team to help me tackle this project. Everyone who walked through the studio doors was so talented! We worked hard every day while bringing along lots of laughs too.

The whole project revolved around the concept that “it’s about the music.” Everyone understood and listened, and let the music build itself the way it was supposed to be. There were no egos involved and no bumps in the road… everything just happened.

I have had an incredible amount of support from my family, friends and listeners. I can’t thank them enough. Looking forward to the next part of this journey!

Rosie, the Weimaraner mix

I was delighted to receive the above photo this weekend from a lady who bought the above painting (unframed) in 2008. It is a 2006 watercolour sketch of a Weimaraner that I later painted in oils. Seeing a painting after a few years is a little like seeing an old friend. Thank you for sending this along, Michelle!
